Hair tinsel, your way
A little shimmer for everyday life, or playful sparkle for your next celebration. Made to Shine offers hair tinsel with Betsy Smith in Grass Valley, California.
One-on-one studio appointments
Come to my cozy at-home studio for a relaxed visit. We’ll choose your colors and placement together, from subtle browns and black to pink, bright colors, neon shades, and rainbow sparkle. Your tinsel is attached with small nano beads.
A $5 deposit reserves your appointment and goes toward your service total. View the studio price list, extras, and care graphics below. Choose One-on-One Hair Tinsel when booking. Visit the studio booking page.
Hair tinsel for parties and events
Invite Made to Shine to your birthday party, baby shower, bridal shower, wedding, business event, market, or gathering.
Events have a two-hour minimum, starting at $250. Longer bookings are welcome! Additional time is $125 per hour when arranged. A $50 deposit reserves your event and counts toward the total. The host pays for the booking, so guests can enjoy their sparkle without paying individually.
Each guest may receive up to six nano beads, with fewer available if preferred. Your booking reserves a block of service time, rather than a guaranteed guest count. Tell me your group size so we can plan the right amount of time.
Ask about adding a glitter bar or combining hair tinsel and glitter. Travel availability and any travel fee are confirmed in your quote. The event service balance is due at least 24 hours before the event. Send an event inquiry.
A few things to know before you shine
Where is the studio?
My studio is in Grass Valley, California. The exact address and arrival instructions are shared privately after your booking and deposit are confirmed.
Can I book the same day?
When the calendar has an opening, studio appointments can be booked with at least one hour’s notice. Available days and times follow my current calendar.
How should I prepare?
Come with clean, dry hair when possible. You don’t need to wash it immediately before your appointment, and I can brush it during your visit. If you’re unsure about your hair length or whether tinsel is right for your hair, send me a question before booking.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring a friend or your child. If you’re booking for a child, please contact me with any questions about the visit.
What if I need to cancel, reschedule, or arrive late?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice for studio cancellations or rescheduling. Less notice, or a no-show without communication, means forfeiting the $5 deposit. If you’re running late, contact me so we can work out what is possible with the day’s schedule.
What if my tinsel comes out?
If your tinsel comes out within three days of your appointment, contact me so I can help with reapplication. If something about your look isn’t feeling right, please reach out so we can talk about an adjustment.
How do I remove it?
Please contact me for removal. Nano beads need the proper removal tool, and a bead may remain in your hair even if a tinsel strand slips out.
How should I care for it?
A little gentle care helps keep your sparkle happy! Brush slowly, wash with care, and give the tiny attachment points a little extra love. I’ll walk you through caring for your tinsel at your visit.
What’s the best way to brush my sparkly hair?
Start with the ends and work your way upward in small sections. Take your time around the beads near your roots, and ease out tangles instead of tugging. If your brush has little balls on the bristle tips, be extra gentle: those tips can catch an attachment and pull on it.
Can I wash my hair with tinsel?
Give your hair a gentle wash and skip rough scrubbing around the beads. Treat the attachment points kindly so you can get back to enjoying your shine.
What about curling irons and other hot tools?
Use heat protectant on your hair, and avoid high heat directly on the tinsel or beads. Don’t clamp a bare tinsel strand in a hot tool by itself; keep it together with a section of your hair. Ask me about suitable heat settings for the tinsel used at your appointment before styling.
Which beads does Betsy use?
I use the tiny nano beads circled in pink in the comparison photos below. The larger bead beside each one is there so you can see the size difference. Little beads, a little sparkle, and a look that feels like you!
How do I plan an event?
Send your event date, start time, location, expected number of people interested in tinsel, whether the setup is indoors or outdoors, and how much service time you’d like. We’ll confirm availability, travel details, and the booking information together. Let’s plan your sparkle.
The tiny bead inside the pink circle is the nano bead I use at Made to Shine. The larger bead is shown for size comparison.
A closer look on a mannequin: the small bead circled in pink is the type I use. The larger attachment beside it shows the difference in size.
